Stupendous, wonderful, magnificent, stupefying: these were just some of the many thoughts that went through the minds of HB students as the Space shuttle passed by on top of a modified 747 headed for Dulles Airport.
While many saw this as a wonderful view and an historic event, there was also a magical component, in that the object in the sky was once in space. Cheers and excitement were heard all around as many cheered, clapped, and one group actually began to chant “We’re number one! America is number one!”.
The Discovery circled, giving HB Woodlawn three chances to see the majestic craft. After a whopping thirty nine trips into space, the Discovery will retire at the Udvar Hazy center.
